The dance routine accompanying Michael Jackson’s song “Smooth Criminal” includes a gravity defying stunt where the dancers lean forward to an extent humanly impossible. The impossible was made possible by special shoes, patented by Michael Jackson and co-inventors, that literally bolted the dancer to the floor. Read about it in Anticipate This, a patent law blog in our blogroll.

According to the post, the patent has expired for lack of payment of the third maintenance fee, so you can make yourself a pair of shoes like Jackson wore in the dance routine without infringing on Patent No. 5,255,452.

While you are looking at Anticipate This, scroll down a bit to view Patent No. 3,656,459. Now this is something I could use — if it works.
